I can’t believe it’s been one year.  Since we’ve been engaged, we’ve welcomed two nieces and a nephew, we got married, Christian interviewed for residencies in 14 locations across the United States (you can read about that here) and graduated medical school, we packed up our entire lives, moved across the country and both started new jobs and our marriage together.

All of that to say, this year felt pretty easy and a whole lot of fun!  Christian and I have learned so much about each other and ourselves in the almost seven years we’ve been together, and he’s truly like my other half.  We’ve been through so much together and he’s my constant, my rock, my security blanket, my home.

I wanted to have some photos taken to capture where this year has brought us.  I wanted to have some memories of the beginning of our marriage in this beautiful new place we call home and was so thrilled when he was onboard with the idea!  The poor guy works around the clock and with only four days off a month, spending one of them hopping rocks in front of a photographer was such a special act of service (my love language) and I am so thankful.  More cheesy bragging on this guy I’m lucky enough to call my husband here.

I was honored to have the beautiful and talented Breanna Holderby capture these photos in Malibu.  She is such a delight to work with and if you’re in the LA area, I couldn’t recommend her enough!  You can also check out her blog here.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for photos from our anniversary trip to Santa Barbara and the wedding cake topper that made its way all the way from Mississippi to be eaten on our one year anniversary.  Do any of you married ladies out there have advice for how to stretch the newlywed phase for more than a year?  I would love to hear!

Thanks for being a part of this journey with us.  XO –

  1. These pictures are so beautiful! Happy 1 year Anniversary! My husband and I will be celebrating our 2 year Anniversary tomorrow and to stretch the newly wed phase at least another year we enjoy just each other and the new things that year two brought us!

  2. Great photos! The Newlywed year never ends when you’re still madly in love. My husband and I have been togehter for almost 7 years and married for over 2 now… married life just keeps getting better. We moved across the country 4 months after we got married in 2011 (MS to WA) and that first year was wonderful with the second one being even better. Tell them at the oddest times what you love most about them. It never ceases to knock him off his feet on a random Tuesday night when I tell him how much he means to me and those little things he always does like taking out the bathroom trash I notice. I hate trash… but the main point is to tell him you notice those kind of things. Chad changed my Kindle light battery last night and I almost started crying becuase I was laying there thinking… who would change my battery if he wasn’t mine?! I’d have to do it myself… and that’s just not the life I want to lead. LOL The biggest blessing from God you can ever get is the love of a good man. Blessed we are.

    1. Your absolutely touching and precious comment gave me a lump in my throat! So thrilled for YOU and the wonderful man you have snagged. Thank you for sharing such a sweet example of unconditional love and marriage. XO –

  3. Let’s try this again! Happy anniversary! I love these photos, they’re beautiful! They remind me of when Andrew still lived in Carlsbad, we would go sit on the bluffs along the coast and just talk and watch the ocean. I’ve only been to Malibu once for a wedding, but it’s so beautiful! I hope you had a wonderful weekend in Santa Barbara. Loved that Instagram video you did with wedding photos. What a beautiful and FUN wedding!

  4. Oh, Kat… I love when you serve up the cheddar. I’m so glad to be able to call you and C my friends and so glad to have been able to celebrate with y’all 1 year ago. Let’s be friends forever and revisit the movie moment wedding/falling leaf story every year at this time, yes? Truly gorgeous pics for one of my favorite duos.
PS: Overdue mail headed your way this afternoon! =)
