When Christian and I first met and starting dating, I was in college and all about the color.  Everything I wore was full of bright, cheerful color.  And 800 bracelets (I was like a gypsy – lovin’ it). He recently pointed out that for the first few years after college (when I was working at a magazine and a bank’s headquarters), I wore all black all the time.  Flash forward to these days in Southern California and I wear solid, breezy whites and light colors nonstop.  I think I’m going through phases of the color wheel over here, are any of you like that?

This beach ensemble from our Laguna Beach staycation reminds me of something I would 100% have worn in college. Combine the colorful kimono with this trendy suit (I’m all about the retro suit this summer), and Orchid Boutique has become one of my favorite spots to shop for designer swimwear.  Not to mention this coverup is just the piece that I can’t wait to take to Hawaii next month!

  1. I love that suit! Especially the details of the cutouts on the bottom and the straps on top. Really elegant and definitely retro! Not to mention, the scenery here is gorgeous!!

    1. I totally agree that I loved the retro and sophisticated cut of the suit. The peek-a-boo cutouts are just the touch of sexy it needed!! And yes, let’s be honest – the scenery does the work for me! XO

    1. Oh my gosh if only I could workout more often! I try to do yoga and pilates at least twice a week and if I’m lucky I’ll do something active on the weekends. Honestly – my workout routine is pretty pathetic, but with summer around the corner, I need to amp it up! Thank you for your sweet words! XO

    1. We are going to Maui too! CAN’T WAIT. If you have any recs I would love to hear!! January – what a beautiful time to go. XO

  2. Catching up on your last few posts and have to say: that eighth photo is PERFECTION. You look amazing in all of them, but the composition of that particular photo is stunning. The perspective and framing are calendar-worthy. #artnerd

    1. Oh my gosh, thank you Jen!! This was all location and photog – you can’t go wrong with Valorie Darling and Laguna! You’ve made my morning with your sweet words XOXO

  3. Hi Kathleen- I just started following your blog and I absolultey love your style. I love everything about this outfit! I particularly LOVE the hat and the size of the brim. I know you linked a floppy hat from Nordstrom but I was wondering if it was the exact hat? I find usually when I try on floppy hats the brim is MUCH larger than I expected and I feel a little lost in it which i was I love the one you are wearing so much! Thank you!!!!!
