yumi kim rush hour maxi dress

I wore this red maxi wrap dress on a recent vacation in Mexico (shared here and here), and it’s one of my favorite maxi dresses to pull out for a summer date night. SO I thought today I could share some of our favorite summer date night activities!

Although I can’t claim I came to this idea on my own.  A few days ago I asked those of you who watch my Insta-Stories on Instagram for some suggestions of content that you would like to see.  I was so excited to get so many fantastic suggestions and am getting started with them this week, so stay tuned!

But let’s get into it, shall we? I quizzed Christian and below are some of our favorite summer-themed dates. I know that not all of these can be done in every town, but I’m just sharing some of our favorites here in OC.

1.  Bike rides to dinner, drinks, a brewery or wine tasting, farmers markets, lunch – you get it.

2.  Taking the top off the Jeep and going basically anywhere.

3.  Walks on the pier and bonfires on the beach.

4.  Pulling out our record player and listening to vinyls under the bistro lights on the patio, grilling out with       some wine.

5.  Sunset picnics in the park or at the beach.

6.  Showering early and watching a movie in pj’s in the bed with popcorn.

7.  Evening swims or visits to the jacuzzi.

8.  Play bocce ball, dominoes or scrabble. Who doesn’t love a board game?

9.  Go to an Angels baseball game (we can actually ride our bikes)!

10.  Go see a comedy show. I am so excited to have tickets to Heather McDonald‘s live podcast taping this weekend at the Irvine Improv, she has other stand-up shows this weekend too!  We’ve also seen some other great shows there and some hilaaarrious shows in San Francisco.

A few more things we’ve never actually done together but would love to do are a drive-in movie theater, rent a tandem bike and go mini-golfing or bowling.

  1. Hi CBL,
I have to let you know- this is probably the 5th time in the past ~6 months where I try to read the post and your website defaults out to a spam site. Many times it’s a giveaway for money, today it was some data site. Then to try and get back to it is difficult- today it took me 5 attempts. Someone may have you hacked :(. Love the blog though! Gorgeous dress.

    1. Oh NO! Is this on mobile? I’ve heard of this happening on mobile but not on desktop. Any help or screenshots would be appreciated so I could send it to my IT team. I’m so sorry for the trouble and thank you so much for taking the time to share it with me so I can fix it!

  2. So pretty Kathleen!

We do a lot of fun things in the Summer too! We actually really love to go bowling (nerd alert?), but I think it’s just our friendly competitive side coming out 🙂 We also love to go to concerts! Train and OAR actually came to Charlotte a couple of weeks ago so we went to see them- took me back to Middle School and High School haha so that was fun and there are always a lot of concerts here in the Summer so it’s nice to be outside!

Our brewery scene is pretty big here too so you can usually find most of the Charlotte population at the breweries on a nice Saturday or Sunday, but the lake is near by as well and of course who doesn’t love going to the pool 🙂

    1. We have never been bowling and we really want to! LOVE concerts – that is always so fun. I’ve heard North Carolina has a bunch of breweries. That is so so fun!

  3. I love the idea of dusting off some board games for a fun, cheap date night! Anything outdoors is always a great idea. We recently had a picnic in a park, then ended the date with a game of UNO by the water.

  4. Drive in movie is definitely my favorite! You can bring snack and a blanket, while still being out with the public. It’s fun to people watch and watch the movie. Can’t wait to see your other content ideas!

  5. You look gorgeous girl! Love these date ideas – I have been wanting to get a bike, since my boyfriend already has one. So many fun things to do + also a great workout! #DateIdea – working out together! By the way, I had no idea Heather was going to be at the Improv this weekend! Would love to see her! Thanks for sharing, xx.

  6. Such a fabulous post and you look radiant in red! Enjoy your date night today, gorgeous girl

  7. I’d like to add going kayaking or stand up paddleboarding to the list. We just rented some kayaks this past weekend and it was an experience! Also, minigolf is always fun – esp after a little bit of wine, the tackier the course, the better!

    1. Yesss stand up paddleboarding is SO fun! Mini-golf is on my list. Still can’t believe C and I have never done it together!

  8. Love all of these ideas for date night! We love riding our bikes to Angels games too! And, your tan looks amazing!
