carrie bradshaw lied home

This post is long overdue!  I chopped my hair about a month ago.  Honestly, I haven’t had hair this short since jr. high, and I was so nervous to make the cut. Once I left the salon chair (I go to Jeanna at Salon9), I couldn’t believe I’d been nervous and I thought… I should have made this cut a long time ago! It feels more mature and no-fuss. I love it!

Since then I’ve been getting questions a lot of questions about how I’ve been styling it.  I wanted to wait until I had tried a few irons, curlers, products, etc. so I could share my favorite strategy with you guys.  I promise it’s not groundbreaking information, but I like to share blog posts when I get the same question often so that it will hopefully answer everything in one place!

Two of my favorite things about having short hair are:

  1.  It cuts my styling time in half.

  2. My hair holds curl and texture SO much longer.

Step One

Once I’ve washed my hair (I wash my hair 2-3x a week), I use this detangler with this brush.  I’ll then add either this leave-in conditioner or this moisturizing cream.

Step Two

I then blow dry it with this blow-dryer and will spray in this heat protectant spray before plugging in a curling wand or iron.  When I’m styling it for the first time I will use this 1″ curling wand for tighter waves that fall throughout the day.  For the next 2-4 days, I’ll use this iron with this 1.25″ barrel to maintain the waves or touch them up.

In this post, I have third day hair.  On the first day I curled it with the wand and then today before the post I touched it up with the clip barrel.

Step Three

Once I’ve curled my hair I’ll spray this texturizing spray in the mid-section of my hair and will lightly spray with hairspray.  If I’m going to be taking photos for my blog, I will pop in a few clip-in hair extensions (I’m wearing them in these photos) from Bellami for extra fullness!  I use the ones shared here, and I cut three wefts when I cut my hair so I could continue to wear them.

  1. My favorite hair product is actually just coconut oil! I put it on the tips of my hair after I shower and it has completely revived my hair!!

  2. Love this post and can’t wait to try some of the products you mentioned, especially the detangler. My favorite haircare product right now probably has to be the bumble and bumble hairdressers invisible oil along with the pureology hydrate air dry cream. I live in the Midwest where it is SUPER dry in the winter so I really try to stay away from heat styling my hair and love using those two products together to keep my hair moisturized.

  3. I just tried Monat products for the first time and I have been OBSESSED!!! My hair is softer and shinier and even my hair stylist noticed a difference!!

  4. Garnier Fructis anti humidity smoothing milk- because the humidity in the south is so real and hot poodle doesn’t look good on anyone!

  5. I’m so glad you did this post! I have a couple questions. Are you particularly loyal to any certain shampoo/conditioner? Do you have keratain treatments or anything similar done to your hair? My hair is about the same length as yours and I’m finally trying to master the whole concept of knowing how to style my hair! Thanks! 🙂

  6. I love Redken One United, Kenra styling creme (10), big sexy hair root plump plus, and kenra texturing taffy

  7. Love this post Kathleen! I just got the DryBar collection and love their Triple Sec spray, and their heat protectant. I’m obsessed with their hair dryer, it cuts my dry time in half!

  8. Is your color natural? It’s such a beautiful brown! (And also, I was lol’ing at the photo cred to your beau–great job, Christian! 🙂 )

  9. I am an oribe junky!! Dry Texturizing Spray, Gold Lust Shampoo and Conditioner, Gel Serum. Can’t live without any of these. I always always have a mini texturizer in my purse!

  10. Thank you for this post! As someone who also recently chopped off my mane (over 12 inches) I loved getting to read what your routine is! My favorite hair product right now is the Dry Bar Southern Belle Volumizing Mousse. I can tell such a difference in how bouncy my hair is when I use this product. Plus it smells so good!!

  11. I love it’s a ten! That’s and KMS tame frizz collection are a couple of my faves!

  12. I love it’s a ten! That’s and KMS’ tame frizz collection are a couple of my faves!

  13. R&Co. dry shampoo it’s great for brunettes because it doesn’t turn your hair white and smells amazing!

  14. I love using silk oil on my hair. It keeps it healthy. I use it after every shower and it can also smooth fly always.

  15. I love the Oribe Texturizing spray! It does wonders for my fine hair and serves as a dry shampoo on day 2 for me. Thanks for sharing! Now if I can just learn to use a wand…

  16. Aveda Dry Remedy Oil! It has really helped my hair in the damaged areas. Honestly, I was a lover of moroccan oil for years, but this has it beat!

    1. I have lost my mind- DRY SHAMPOO!!! Batiste believe it or not is my favorite. The amount of cans I go through should make me feel guilty, but it doesn’t because it’s amazingggg

  17. i love oribe’s dry texturizing spray! one of the few things that gives my fine, straight hair some body!

  18. I love all Oribe products!!!! This stuff has changed my hair! Thank u for this post! I love following you!

  19. I LOVE all things Living Proof but I think their Dry Shampoo is my favorite! And the t3 with interchanging barrels is life changing

  20. I am obsessed with the Aussie 3 minute miracle. It’s so inexpensive but makes such a difference in my hair! Love your blog! It’s apart of my daily ritual!

  21. I love Moroccanoil products. My favorite might be the Dry Texture spray but also love their hair spray and the hydrating styling cream.

  22. Loving this post! My fav hair products are the bellami hair extensions (which i also like to pop in for some extra fullness) and second: i love the dry bar hair dryer – its super lightweight and perfect for girls who travel and are on the go!

  23. I currently love anything Drybar has to offer when it comes to hair products, but always love trying new things out!!

  24. I have shorter naturally curly hair and my favorite product is the Kerastase creme magistrate, it leaves my hair so silky and helps with the Texas humidity! Love your blog!

  25. I love reading your blog post and checking out your instagram. I get so many great ideas from you. Thanks for being so cool and relatable!

  26. My hair must have is Aquage uplifting foam. It gives my hair just that extra oomph it needs to not lay flat and boring when I use the flat iron. I have also just discovered Bumble and Bumble pre shampoo masque and it has done wonders for my naturally dry, coarse (naturally curly) hair!

  27. I have been all about the Hask charcoal dry shampoo. It is super affordable and it can be found at Walmart, and I swear it is my game changing dry shampoo. But I also use a volumizing silk moose for when you get out of the shower and your styling it, it is by Pureology and I’m so obsessed!!!

  28. Love love looove It’s a 10! I’ve used it for a million years! I like to switch it up with the one with keratin!

  29. LOVE this post! I have naturally thin hair and wear extensions for fullness as well. But a product that has recently helped my hair has been Nexxus Emergencee Reconstructive Treatment.( read about this on Byrdie Beauty Blog and decided to give it a try!) Since my hair is so thin, I use it once every two weeks in the shower (and because it’s so thin I only use half of the treatment which is awesome because it lasts so much longer!) I can’t tell you how much of an improvement I have seen in my hair since starting it! My hair feels thicker, it has grown faster because I don’t have near as many split ends, and I can tell my hair is so much healthier now. I will never stop using this product!!

  30. R+Co Analog Cleansing Foam Conditioner. A great way to get rid of buildup and still lock in some moisture

  31. I love Paul Mitchell Sculpting Mousse. If I’m being honest, I love it way more because it smells like coconuts to me than I do because of its performance. But it works well too for holding my frizzy hair in a smooth style.

  32. I swear I need a crash course on what the hell I’m supposed to be doing with my hair because I must have missed that boat! I appreciate you putting out this blog post though because now I know what to be on the lookout for when I go shopping. I’ve tried the Kristen Ess hair mask a couple of times and so far I like it!

  33. My favorite hair product right now is Brigeo’s “don’t dispair, repair!” Deep conditioning mask! My hair just feels so soft and smells so good after I use it!

  34. I just received the T3 wand trio for Christmas and don’t know how I have lived without it. Also, I’ve never used an Oribe product I didn’t love!!

  35. Thank you for writing this! I recently chopped my hair after my wedding and have been looking for inspiration for styling. I love the idea of changing up the size of the curling barrel. Not sure my hair could style for multiple days, though. Do you use dry shampoo? Or just blessed and don’t have grease issues 🙂 My favorite hair product is The Science of Ten shampoo by Alterna. It’s the only thing that gives life to my greasy yet dry scalp and fine hair! It also smells divine.

  36. I LOVE DryBar dry shampoo! It’s a bit pricey, but I swear it extends the amount of time I can go between hair wash days hands down, best thing in my hair arsenal!

  37. I love a lot of drybar products, especially their detangled and dry shampoo. I also use and like bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Oil. I have really dry hair, so I put it in before I let my hair airdry, then I use a curling wand in the am.

  38. Dry. Shampoo. Favorite product ever, love Batiste, Not Your Mothers, Dry Bar, and Living Proof!

I’ve been on the fence of chopping my hair for about a year now; thank you for this post!

  39. My favorite hair product is biosilk! My hair has never been so smooth and silky, but this product also maintains the volume! I’ve recently started to get more into beauty and skin care and hair care, so this package/giveaway would defiantly help me figure out what to use on my hair!!

  40. The stylist who took me all the way up to a long bob used that Oribe creme in my hair and it felt amazing and held shape so well!

  41. I love love love MarulaOil Lite shampoo and conditioner. I rotate shampoos and conditioners so much that when I come back around to it, I’m sad that I ever left it. Smells like heavy and makes me hair so soft and shiney!

  42. Hi!! Just chopped my hair too! All time favorite hair product is Orive dry texturing spray. I love that is doesn’t weigh down my fine hair and asks as not just a texturizer but also a dry shampoo.

  43. I LOVE YOUR LOB! My favorite hair product is R+CO Prep spray! My hair is so soft and shiny when I style it!

    xoxo, Preeti

  44. I am a sucker for anything by It’s a 10. I am currently using the ‘It’s a 10 Haircare Miracle Leave-In for Blondes’ to try to prolong the time in between dyes. I haven’t tried the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray but that is next on my list!
    Thank you for the giveaway!

  45. Love this post! Your photos are beautiful!! My must have hair product now and forever is dry shampoo! Currently loving Drybar’s dry shampoo but I love them all!!!

  46. My favorite hair product is from Sephora it’s called Caviar Creme! It’s a leave in hair protector. It keeps your hair soft and protects it from heat irons.

  47. My new hair product obsession is the Living Proof Dry Volume Blast! Similar to the Oribe Texturizing Spray but I believe a bit cheaper.

  48. My favourite hair product is argan oil! I notice a BIG difference in the strength and shine of my hair, it has also helped to grow my hair so much faster than usual. XO

  49. I LOVE bumble and bumble’s repair blow dry cream! The advanced scalp and hair concentrate by Kerastase gives me life too!!

  50. Using a curling wand has changed my life!! It helped me finally figure out how to style my own hair in a semi decent time. Favorite thing ever!!!

  51. My favorite hair product is Josie Maran Argan Oil! It’s a little pricey for such a small vial but a little goes a long way and is so worth it! Ladies with thick and dry hair, this is your saving grace!

  52. LOVE reading all of your hair secrets! And it’s seriously the cutest short! My number one hair product would definitely be the Oribe Matte Waves Lotion for the days when i air dry! This is such a great giveaway! Xo, Katherine (katherinesmclean.com)

  53. Hands down fave: Kevin.Murphy Blonde.Angel! Keeps my forced blonde hair bright! 😉 LOVE your shorter hair! One day I’ll be brave enough to make the chop!

  54. Your hair looks so amazing and healthy, I absolutely love it how you are styling it. Looks like hollywood glamour with the soft curls. My favorite line of hair products are from Oribe, Bumble and Bumble and my new obsession of Byredo Gypsy Water mist….its beyond amazing. I love his scents and buy his ultra expensive perfumes and candles, the hair water smells so delicious that you would get so many compliments if people get near you!

    xoxo love,

    Maurenice B.

  55. Great post! I love hearing how other people do their hair, and I always wondered what you did with yours. I had no clue you wore extensions in your shoots! I honestly thought it was all your hair. I do hope you’ll do a post about your extensions and what they’re like.

  56. Honestly, my fave go-to hair product is my Dove dry shampoo! I have fine hair that used to look so dirty if I skipped even one day of washing. Ever since I started using this dry shampoo, it has changed my life and I can go 2, even 3 days without washing my hair! Also, it’s great because #budgetfriendly for the husband that doesn’t understand why I have to spend money on any beauty products ever.

  57. I cannot live without any sort of hair serum!!! I have frizzy hair and live in the south so it saves me from looking like a chia pet on a daily basis.

  58. Love the short hair on you! My favorite product is hands down the Oribe dry texturizing spray, can’t live without the pieces goodness it leaves behind!!

  59. Love the mane and take detangler! It’s a life saver with my little girls with long curly hair! ❤️

  60. So appreciate of those post! I just chopped my hair too and have been really struggling with relearning how to style it now! But as far as products go – I am obsessed with both my Kenra hairspray and Kevin Murphy PowderPuff Ball!!!

  61. Obsessed with all Aveda hair products! My all time favorite is the Air Control hairspray. There is literally nothing on the market that comes close to this stuff. Been using it for nearly 10 years now. I also have short, above the shoulder hair and I love the new texture spray by Aveda. Instead of being a sea salt spray its a sugar spray. Only takes a litte but works magic!

  62. OBSESSED with IGK’s Beach Club and Rich Kid. (Also my boyfriend steals Rich Kid daily so I guess we both love it). Also a HUGE Bumble and bumble fan, their detanglers/ leave in conditioners are everything!
Also love your blog! You are too funny and genuine with your followers 🙂 love exploring new products so winning this would be so fun! I made the change to short hair years ago and love it. Cutting my hair and going blonder has helped keep a curl in my otherwise pin-straight hair. Thanks for the read!

  63. Your hair is beautiful! I love it shorter! One of my favorite hair products is Dry Bar dry shampoo. It is the best dry shampoo to extend my hair a day or two without needing to shower, gives me some added volume, and smells great! (Does this make me a fashionista up with the trends, or just lazy hmm??).

  64. You da cutest. I always see that curling iron and I want it so bad. That will def be a splurge later in life. My fav hair care product at the moment is the Kristin Ess leave in conditioner from target. It’s the bomb and doesn’t leave my hair greasy and deranged like a champ. Actually her whole line is amazing if you haven’t tried it yet. Loved you! Give Bailey and Luca (I think it’s Luca- I’m blanking!!!) kisses for me.

  65. OUAI texturizing pomade. Smells amazing! I just put a little bit on my ends for a lived in look. A little goes a long long way!

  66. Thank you so much for this post, love your hair!! My favorite hair product is the Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair oil…it’s amazing!!

  67. Love this! Fave hair product right now is Ouai Memory Mist, curls/waves last for days and its also a heat protectant!

  68. Wow, I loved reading about how you do your hair! My favorite product is probably my it’s a 10 leave in conditioner! Or my dry bar dry shampoo! They are must haves! Xoxo

  69. My favorite hair product is Unite 7 Seconds Condition Leave In Detangler. It smells so good and makes my hair so, so soft!

  70. My all time favorite hair product is a good detangler! I’ve switched between a couple in the last year so I’m still deciding on a true favorite, but I have naturally curly hair, and using a good detangler gives me more days of my natural curls between washes! I loved this post and all the tips and tricks! ❤️

  71. Favorite hair product by far is Kenra blow-dry spray. Cuts down on blow dry time and leaves my hair so shiny! Would love to try the snail shampoo/conditioner duo from the giveaway

  72. My favorite hair product is the Ouai Foaming Dry Shampoo! I’m a sucker for dry shampoo lol!

  73. Great post as I am going for a similar chop on Friday!
I’m loving L’Oreal® Paris Advanced Hairstyle Blow Dry It Quick Dry Primer Spray right now.

  74. The Wella EIMI Thermal Heat Protection spray has done wonders for my hair! I typically style using heat a max of 3 times a week and I’ve noticed this spray has cut my damage in half!

  75. Love your short hair and have been looking for a new wand! My favorite hair product is the Bumble and Bumble thickening spray, but I want to try Oribe!!

    Jillian

  76. My hair is the same length! Thank you for the great tips! My current favorite hair product is moroccan oil!

    Xoxo
    -Hilary

  77. I ADORE Ouai’s hair oil. I put it on the ends of my super long hair right after a shower, and again once I’ve let it air dry. It’s the only thing that makes airdrying/no heat styling at all possible with my crazy mane!

  78. I LOVE kerastase elixir ultime, my friend is a hair stylist and sometimes gets me a deal on it. It makes my hair so soft! I also have used Paul Mitchell leave in conditoner since 7th grade. Still works great to detabgle.

  79. Oribe texturizing spray is the bomb.com. I live by my texturizing spray for extra volume and I haven’t found a better one. I also catch myself just spraying it in my hair because it smells so darn good!

  80. I have relatively normal hair but my favorite product for my hair after the shower is the It’s a 10 miracle leave in product. That shit is a straight up blessing.
I love reading your blog and watching the insta stories. You truly are amazing and inspirational to follow!

  81. My current favorite hair product is Big Sexy Hair Spray & Play Volumizing Hairspray!!
I also the MOROCCANOIL® hair treatment – amazing product for amazing shine!

  82. Hmm favorite hair product of all time would have to be fekkai’s olive oil hair cream. It never disappoints.

  83. Does coconut oil count?! It does he trick for conditioning without making my hair too oily!

  84. You have serious hair goals. Is it sad that dry shampoo is the hair product I use the most? Ha.

  85. Love this! Thank for your sharing your tips. Your hair is so amazing and I love it short! (One of) My favorite hair product is Aquage uplifting foam. Huge plus- it just became available at Ulta! It’s a spray foam- great for volume direct at the roots. ‍♀️‍♀️

  86. Love this post! I recently cut off my hair too. I’m really loving the dry shampoo and texturing spray from The Ouai.

  87. My favorite hair product I LOVE is 21 benefits by Pureology. It smells amazing and helps my hair dry faster while not damaging it from the heat.

  88. Anything Kerastase! I literally love all of their products but one of my faves is Chronologiste – makes my hair so soft and smells like HEAVEN!!

  89. First off I absolutely love you and everything you post! So my favorite hair products would have to be Oribe Supershine Light Moisturizing Cream followed by Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil!!! I know this is more of a treatment but I do as you do Castor Oil treatments give or take every 2 weeks, I also use on my brows to help them grow as well. Like I said earlier you are truest something else and I really enjoy reading and watching your posts you are beyond genuine and so dang funny!!!

  90. I always use Paul Mitchell’s super skinny serum on my wet hair when styling! Helps tame the full lion mane to a more manageable, maybe teenage lion mane? I need all the help I can get!

  91. I actually don’t use a ton of hair products anymore and this post is making me think I need to take better care of my hair! I use shampoo, conditioner, and then it’s a 10 which I will say is a favorite of mine…I’ve dropped all other products but this is the one that’s stuck around for YEARS. Love how it makes my hair feel and obviously it does a lot of other good stuff, too.

  92. I just love your short hair! My favorite product right now is a sea salt spray!

P.S. I love your insta stories! You’re so real and usually give me a good laugh. 🙂

  93. Yes soul sister! This is exactly what I needed! I have thought about chopping my hair off or just getting my dead ends cut off, and this has made me want to keep my length( its roughly the same length as yours)! I have thin hair, and the way you style your hair is one of the best ways for my hair type I have seen!

    xoxo

  94. Ahh! I forgot to put my favorite haircare product in here! But, it is for sure either my Kenra Dry Texture spray, or Bubmble and Bumble texture spray. Because my hair is so thin, texture spray really help my hair look fuller.

  95. I LOVE your blog and can’t wait to try your favs. Right now I’m loving It’s a 10 Miracle leave in spray. But my Mist use products are always changing! Keep up the good work!

  96. My fave hair products is HANDS-DOWN Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo! Like most girls, my hair is usually 90% dry shampoo and this one is amazing!

  97. I love it’s a 10 for a leave in! I switch off with that and redken extreme leave in. Both are amazing!

  98. Oooh I have two favourites! The first is Redken Argan oil, if you have fine hair like myself it’s a great oil that isn’t too heavy on your hair. I find most oils end up just making my hair greasy but not this baby! I use it as a heat protectant and as a mask a couple times a week. My other fav is the goldwell range, I use their shampoo and conditioner

  99. I’ve been dying for this post. Although now I won’t have anything to blame when my hair looks awful haha. I have recently become obsessed with dessange shampoo and I swear by apple cider vinegar rinses whenever I want a little extra shine!

  100. R & Co High Dive! Its so great for moisturizing and detangling. Also, love Aveda smoothing oil! Hair products are my thing- I love trying new ones and rotating through them!

  101. First off Christian is so good taking pictures and he’s a doctor, ya snagged a good one. I love Kerastase!

  102. Living Proof Perfect Hair Day (PhD) is my jam! Keeps frizz away and makes me look like I got my hair blown out by a stylist every time.

  103. Favorite hair product LOVE hair conditioner from Davines. Leaves your hair so soft, so smooth and smelling

  104. Love this post! I unfortunately have to wash my hair almost everyday but I have two favorite products that help when it’s a mess! Renewing Argan oil of Morocco from OGX helps bring out my highlights and trying to still be “naturallyl blonde it’s a lifesaver! Second, Dove dry shampoo is a miracle worker when I’m running late and don’t have time to wash my hair but still need to style it!!!

  105. I love It’s a 10 hair mask. It makes my hair so soft and hydrated. Especially after the dry, cold winter air has hung around for a couple of months.

  106. As you know the winters in Oxford, MS. can be harsh. My favorite product is it’s a 10 leave in conditioner. I feel like it protects my hair from heat, freezing weather and frizz.

  107. Not sure if they have any Regis Salons near you but if they do, you have to try their Olive Oil brand shampoo and conditioner. It protects my color, helps my hair grow, keeps it soft and shiny! It’s all I’ve been using since August and my hair has grown a significant amount. It’s the best shampoo and conditioner I’ve ever used!

  108. I love Argan oil for my hair! Also, I am not sure if this counts, but I have been adding one scoop of Vital Proteins collagen to my coffee and I feel like this has made my hair softer, thicker, and shinier!

  109. I can’t live without Bumble & Bumble’s pret a powder. Aerosol dry shampoos always seem to come to a dramatic sputter when I’m headed to a meeting three days since my last shampoo. This powder lets me apply as excessively as I like and never seems to run out! I even apply it to freshly washed hair anymore just for oomph. LOVE IT

  110. I lovvvve and can’t live without my Living Proof dry shampoo also, love their style primer. It seems to really help with not having to wash as much especially after work outs. And one more- newly obsessed with the dry bar round brush. Learned from a friend to spray dry shampoo and blow dry it into the roots. It works miracles to extend time between washes for my thick hair!

  111. Oh my gosh, that Oribe Texture Spray is a must have and def one of my fave products!!

  112. I honestly read this post bc I don’t have a favorite. I need serious help in this department. But as for now..shampoo!?

  113. If you haven’t tried any of Kristen Ess’s hair products, get on that STAT!! Everything she makes is amazing, but my personal fav is her working texture spray. Perfect for a “natural” hair day or loose waves or even a messy bun!

  114. In a blogging world full of long curls, thanks for this precious short hair style post!!

  115. I recently chopped off 7 inches and loved your style tips I can use for my short hair! I’m still getting a hang of the curling thing but my fave product is Kenra thermal hair spray!

  116. I absolutely love purology’s sheer volume shampoo! It smells delicious as my locks look so much healthier!

  117. Your hair looks so cute short, A. And B, I love the idea of cutting your extensions shorter as you chop your hair! i have a whole set of Bellami’s at home long as hell that I can’t wear because my hair is no longer mermaid length! Gotta get on this ! The Oribe dry texturizing spray is my absolute favorite because I’m not a fan of sticky, hairsprayed hair and like something that is malleable while also holding curl once you take the time to curl your dang hair in the first place.

I must try to Oribe moisturizing cream. My hair is so dry with this California weather going back and forth!

Love this post and thanks babe!
    xoxo

  118. LOVE this post! I love hearing about what products other girls use on their hair to see if I can get some great advice and this post is exactly that! Thank you for sharing!

Your newest breakfast obsession is easy, delicious and gourmet! Check out my newest post now… Blush & Bordeaux

  119. I love Kerastase and Aveda!!❤️ Love your blog and all of your posts on insta! You’re too cute‍♀️

  120. Loved this post! I have medium length hair and it’s always great to hear different methods of maintaining that curl after a few days of not washing. My FAVORITE hair product is Dry Bar’s “Triple Sec” 3-1 texturizing spray! It not only is light, but truly helps eliminate oil after day 2-3 making my hair much fuller and extends the life of my curls.

  121. Okay so this is lame but I don’t have a favorite hair care product because I don’t use anything because I don’t know what to use which is so bad!! I have such dull straight thing hair and need some of these products in my life! Fingers crossed

    Xoxo,
    Britt

  122. Your cut inspired me to chop mine too! I even asked if you felt like it took more time to style and when you said no – I booked my appointment immediately. 16 inches gone to Pantene Beautiful Lengths (feel free to check IG @sammierich for the before/after!). Anyway, I cannot live without dry shampoo – Living Proof & Not Your Mother’s – and now I’m obsessed with the Ouai Memory Mist.

  123. I know it’s not actually good for my hair, but Pantene Smooth and Sleek Conditioner is my favorite product. It makes my hair so soft.

  124. So happy you included supershine in this post! It is an absolute must for literally any person with hair on their head! If you haven’t tried Surfcomber by Oribe, it’s such an amazing product to add into your routine for some added texture. Think dry texture on steroids!

  125. Love Kenra products. The shine spray and hair oil are awesome. Gives that Kyle Richards shine to my hair <3

  126. My favorite hair product is Milkshake leave in conditioner! I have naturally greasy hair so I like using a spray conditioner instead of a traditional one in showe. Also it smells like a real milkshake so

  127. So many products to chose but right now I love Living Proof and R+Co shampoos and Moroccan Oil. Ask me again next month!

  128. Ok this giveaway is amaaaazing! Fav hair product is definitely Its A 10 leave in conditioner bc it save my scalp from the pain of brushing tangled crazy hair like mine!!!

  129. I chopped my hair last Spring and it was the best decision ever! I’m waiting until the dread of NYC winter is over to chop it again! I too found those size curling irons were perfect; any bigger and my hair couldn’t wrap around enough times for a decent curl. Going to try the texturizing spray soon. Currently addicted to humble and bumble’s prêt-à-powder; it’s a miracle worker for limp hair! I would love to win this to try out some new products!

  130. Two favorite products – perfect 10 spray (I use it everyday because I can’t get away without washing after working out – I sweat too much and my hair is too thick – so this saves it a little bit from all the shampoo and blow drying!) and my Jose Eber hair wand. Makes the perfect waves!

  131. Okkuurrr such helpful information! I literally just chopped my hair last week (thanks for the inspo), and needed a guide more than you know! My favorite hair product is my Amika dry shampoo – smells like how I imagine heavaen to smell and works wonders

  132. Moroccan oil!!! I naturally have thick, curly and dry hair. The oil moisturizes and takes away friz with out weighing it down! I literally can’t live without it

  133. My favorite hair product is Kristin Ess texturizing spray from target! Seriously works sooo well!

  134. I love lathering coconut oil on my hair – it really helps my split ends! And I love both Living Proof and DryBar products.

  137. I would have to say that is my Suave dry shampoo, which is why I would loveeee to win this giveaway.

  138. I love the It’s a 10 miracle leave-in plus keratin for detangling my wet hair after a shower, and it also provides heat protection. Tresemme Keratin Smooth heat protectant spray is what I use when I style my dry hair – it’s inexpensive and works really well, plus doesn’t smell cheap or gross like some inexpensive hair products can. I only wash my hair once per week and don’t need to use dry shampoo until day 5 or 6. I like getting the dry shampoo kits from Sephora that have 4 or 5 smaller ones to try. I also deep-condition my hair every 2 or 3 washes. You can use your regular conditioner for this, as long as it’s a good quality one. I do this on the weekend so I can leave the conditioner in for as long as possible. I use a shower cap + towel turban so my hair absorbs all of the conditioner and let it work it’s magic!

  139. My favorite hair product is Briogeo’s Don’t despair, repair deep conditioning mask. I color my hair, so this stuff helps prevent it from being too damaged!

  140. I have very fine hair so I love anything that will give it volume and texture. Right now I’m loving the Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray!

  141. My current hair stylist recommended the Obliphica line of products, and they have been life-changing for my thin, color-treated hair. The Seaberry mask is my favorite product – I use it weekly and see instant results.

  142. Okay for real I think you are the best blogger on insta!! You have the cutest style & I love watch your Instagram vids cause they make me laugh (seriously I told like four friends plus my husband about the guy calling your dog preggo) anywaysssss would die if I won this giveaway!! Keep doing you sista! ❤️

  143. Just took the plunge to chop my hair as well and am loving these tips. My faves rn are Bumble and Bumble hairdresser’s invisible oil heat/uv protective primer as well as their surf spray for perfect beach waves !

  144. YIT this post was just what I needed to read because my hair has been feeling bleh since I gave her the big chop recently…. but I think my hair would crips up soooo fast if I didn’t use ITS A 10 for blondes leave in conditioner every day! (And my Rusk shampoo/ conditioner)…. But have you ever tried the reverse thing where you use conditioner then shampoo? I’ve read about it recently several places, but I always forget in the shower and don’t think about it- plus- my mom said I should only try it on a “low hair commitment day”…. whatever that means… sorry for the saga! I just really love this post and the products!!!!

  145. it’s a 10 leave in conditioner!! Love your short cut, I did the same thing last year and it was a game changer!

  146. I LOVE the Alterna bamboo heat protecting spray! I can really tell a difference in procreation from this product vs others I’ve tried.

  147. My favorite hair product is definitely the bumble and bumble hair dresser’s oil heat protectant spray! Smells amazing and use it every time before I dry my hair.

  148. Thank you for this post!!! I just chopped my hair because it was fried and haven’t enjoyed it to it’s fullest potential. I am going to take these tips and products to the test to help me love my hair again!! My favorite products are from Oribe!

  149. One of my favorite hair products is actually Suave dry shampoo. I feel like it works the best out of any brand I’ve tried, plus it’s really cheap!

  150. Oribe Gold Lust Repair and Restore Conditioner is amazing!! It seriously makes my hair so soft and perfect

  151. I recently chopped my long locks off because I needed a change. I’ve struggled with styling because I am still not used to my hair being so short! Already set my alarm early for the morning so I can try these tips. Can’t wait! THANK YOU!

  152. You inspired me to cut my hair! I did it right before the new year. New Year! New Hair! I was also scared of cutting it since I’ve recently gained weight and felt that short hair wouldn’t look good on me, but I’m in love. My favorite hair product is it’s a 10 leave in conditioner!

  153. Omg. Your hair is totally goals, actually just had my hair cut kinda resembling yours just a tad shorter! I’ve been finding myself using CHI styling cream a lot lately however excited to try some of the products you mentioned girl.

  154. I can’t get enough of Dry Bar dry shampoo and I’m always always on the hunt for a good hair serum, just finished Living Proof and was on the fence ❤️

  155. Thanks for sharing! I’m in the same boat! I’ve always had long hair – and I’m going to continue to grow it out for my wedding in Sept – but I’m thinking I’m going to chop it all off post wedding. I have to laugh because I think my fiancé will have the same reaction as Christian … “it’ll grow on you”. Ha!

I like that you call out adding in some extensions for volume. I’ll probably turn to that as my backup just in case there are some days when I’m missing my long hair. 😉 (I’ve never had extensions, so I always forget about that!)

    1. Also, I commented on two different IG posts based on some girlies that I thought would be interested in your blog for different reasons. Hopefully that’s still a valid entry for this giveaway. <3

  156. I cut my hair a little over a year ago to a similar length! My hair is just now “super” long again and I’ve missed it BUT this is totally making me rethink cutting it again!

  157. Lately I have been loving the Acure Leave in Conditioner because its a safer beauty product and the OGX Extra Strength Damage Remedy + Coconut Miracle Oil Penetrating Oil. Both help keep my really dry hair a lot softer and smoother than it would otherwise be in the winter! 🙂 I am really considering cutting my hair shorter and you are definitely an inspiration pic I will be bringing to the hair dresser!

  158. I love the Oribe Texturizing Spray!
Soooo good for when your hair needs a little oomph bc it’s too smooth (is that even a thing? haha). Definitely need to try out that Oribe moisturizing cream next!

  159. I love any product by Oribe! There dry shampoo is amazing and shampoo/conditioners leave your hair so refreshed!

  160. I am DYING for the T3. I stalk it, I add it to my cart, I remove it from my cart, on and on. Oh, one day!

  161. Girl I needed this post now that I’ve cut my hair your length!! My favorite hair oil is Bumble and Bumble invisible oil! Its so light but takes all the frizz out of my hair 🙂

  162. I absolutely love I mean LOVE Paul Mitchell’s Sugar Spray Texture + Body Texture Spray! Let my hair air dry until its lightly damp, spray it all over, scrunch my hair and get out the door. Perfect scrunch that lasts all day!!! I came across the product when I did the CosmoProf Paul Mitchell hair show and have been obsessed ever since. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT GURRRLLL

  163. My fave hair product is fave4 texture takeover. It’s awesome for short hair like yours and mine and smells Devine. Didn’t mean to rhyme

  164. My favorite hair product currently is the Aveda Smooth Infusion naturally straight, I put it in my hair and let it air dry or before I blow it out and it really smooths my hair, decreases frizz and makes my hair feel so soft, especially after bleaching it

  165. I am a Kerastase fanatic – anything from the hot pink line is my fave! Also Beauty Protect and Detangle (only offered through Birchbox) is a miracle leave in and smells like dessert. Combine those two things and your hair will feel like cashmere!

  166. I have long hair that requires a village to keep it up! Lol
My favorite hair line is kerastase followed by oribe . If I win perhaps I could meet you at fashion island!

  167. My favorite two hair products are:
    1) Kerastase Bain Satin Shampoo (#2)
    2) Schwarzkopf BC Moisture Kick spray

  168. Love the short hair – my favorite hair product is definitely Kevin Murphy’s Body Mass plumping spray (and the Young Again treatment oil is also amaze).

  169. Love how you style your hair!! My fave hair product is the It’s a 10 miracle product. It makes my hair so smooth and healthy feeling!

  170. I love the not your mothers in a heart beat blow dry spray. It cuts my blow dry time in half!

  175. I’ve started putting 2-3 drops of argon oil on the tips of my hair when they seem a bit dried out and it’s works magic! It’s also such a good moisturizer on your hands. I do this especially before bed and I wake up with bouncey fresh hair

  176. Anything Kenra is amazing! Specifically their thermal heat protectant is my favorite.

    Xx, Caitlin

    @caitash

  180. J Beverly Hills dry shampoo is my fav of all time. It smells decent and isn’t chalky. After a certain point nothing can mask super old hair, but this does a good job for a few days!

  181. My favorite hair product is either my Big Sexy Hair hairspray or Deva Curl styling cream!

  182. My favorite hair product is Oribe Detangler! Perfect for curly hair that gets tangled after a shower.

  183. Wella “Brilliance” Leave-in balm for long colored hair. I spray this on wet hair before blow drying and it makes my hair so soft and easy to brush through and style!

  184. My go to and has been for years is it’s a 10! I use it right out of the shower and it makes brushing my hair so easy. I also use the kerastase thermal heat protector as well. Those two products are both amazing!

  185. Can I be honest. I don’t have a favorite hair product. I wish I did. I’ve tried the Moroccan stuff I don’t see a change. Then again I am SUCH A PROCRASTINATOR, that could be it too. I have been wanting to try the coconut oil because I desperately want my hair to grow. Its taken me a whole year just to get maybe 2 inches of growth. But again procrastinator. But some products I would love would be; hair moisturizer, detangler, and something that would make my hair grow long magically. Any recommendations? I promise I’ll try them this time. (:

  186. My favorite hair product is created by Living Proof. They make a dry shampoo and it is a life saver! It’s super misty but yet also provides the percent amount of product. I always try to snag a bottle when I’m in the salon. Please try it! You’ll be happy you did.

    Warmly,
    A Loyal Follower

  187. I use a Moroccan Oil treatment everyday and it’s amazing! It makes my hair smooth and tames all my friz!

  188. My fave product is Dust It mattifying powder! I’m from the South, too – so I loooove some volume on top! Dust It does that without teasing (like the old sorority house days!).. I am living for your shorter hair. So gorge.

  189. Dry Bar Triple Sec! Can act as a dry shampoo or just give a little boost and texture so my hair isn’t so flat annnnnd smells good AF

  190. Love all this!! On my way to buy an inch and 1.5 inch curling iron!! Current hair product I’m crushing on is BC Bonacure hair therapy Rescue Repair! It smells amazing and protects your ends!

  191. My favorite hair product is Batiste Dry Shampoo, it’s the only dry shampoo I have found that really works for my hair. I also like the Unite 7 SECONDS Detangler and Redkens QUICK TEASE 15 BACKCOMBING FINISHING SPRAY
ROOT-LIFTING SPRAY because t gives great gold with out having that hair spray affect. It’s like a texture spray and hair spray had a perfect child.

  192. Dry shampoo is my staple. I will probably die of dry shampoo accumulation in the lungs
That being said, I love Oribe products! Did you know that their signature scent is made by the same house who does all of Tom Ford’s fragrances? Good stuff! Your hair always looks fabulous. This post makes me want to pull out my curling iron and put in some effort again

  193. Love the post I am obsessed with dry bar’s triple sec but I do love Aveda’s line!

  194. Growing up I straight hair but somewhere along the way my hair decided to become wavy and finally just one frizzy mess! Sitting model for hairdressers and having my hair colored four times in a week once upon a time probably didn’t help. I’ve used every oil possible, spent an incredible amount of money on hair products that were supposed to help, while all I had to do is go to the good old trusty drug store! OGX renewing Argen oil of Morocco Penetraiting Oil was the $8 dollar answer to all my problems! There you have it!:) love love love this product!

  195. I haven’t ever had a “favorite” hair product only because my hair is naturally curly :((( and I spend a lot of money on the Japanese hair straightening or Brazilian blowouts, etc and nothing really seems to stick anymore. I was introduced to the Keratin 10 spray about a year ago and have been loving it ever since!!! I honestly just want my hair straight, so I can use a curly wand on it. Is that so much to ask? haha

  196. My must have hair products are from the Living Proof line. PhD (Perfect Haor Day)is to die for!! The shampoo and conditioner combo leaves my hair feeling so much cleaner for longer. It’s totally changed my haircare routine!

  197. My favorite hair product is Bed Head Masterpiece hairspray. My hairdresser used it on my wedding day and now the smell always reminds me of that morning, getting ready with all my best friends

  198. My favorite hair product is living proofs dry last spray! It creates texture so your curls don’t look so perfect. Love it!

  199. I LOVE oribe’s dry shampoo, such a life saver, I also think drybar’s Detox texturizing spray works great and smells intoxicating!

  200. Favorite thing ever is the Oribe Dry texturizing spray. Such a beautiful product for my fine hair!

  201. My mom introduced me to ‘Blow Dry It’ by L’Oreal. It’s amazing and cuts down on my hair drying time, plus it smells great.

  202. Ever since you cut your hair this length, I’ve been dying to take the leap and chop mine too – will just have to wait until the spring after my sister’s wedding!
So happy you did this post I was (anxiously) awaiting it!!
My favorite hair product is aveda’s dry remedy oil!! My hair is sensitive to coloring so unfortunately it dries out terribly when i color it (1-2x per year) and either way the ends are always a little dry. I apply this dry oil after i wash my hair mid-length to ends and will use it in between washed to touch up my dry ends to revive them a bit! It also smells so so good and is pretty light weight for an oil. Hope you like it if you check it out!
<3 you Kat !! you are hilarious and i live for your sass on insta stories ;*

  203. My fave hair product is the Dry Bar Triple Sec. I have really straight hair and the texturizing spray helps to hold curls so well!

  216. Love “it’s a 10” miracle leave in product! It’s great if you blow dry and style everyday

  217. My fav hair product is Aveda’s Firmata hair spray! I’m guilty of jumping around from product to product, usually based on what’s on sale at the time, so I don’t have many hair staples, but this hairspray is one thing I cannot replace! The smell is the main reason I’m in love with it, but secondly it holds curls in my thin hair without the crunch. My hair is soft and I can run my fingers through it, I can’t even tell there is hairspray in it! I’m in love. I don’t use any other Aveda products religiously, but if anyone knows of a shampoo/conditioner by them that has the same scent as this hairspray, please let me know! It’s heavenly and sometimes I spray it in my hair just for the scent! Nuts I know. Thanks for the fun posts and stories on insta, you’ve been fun to watch through these dreary Midwest winter months!

  232. Moroccan oil is one of my year-round favorite products. I have very fine hair and Moroccan oil helps tame any frizzies I get (I live in south GA and the humidity is the WORST) but it also restores shine and moisture back into my overworked hair!! 241. I love the Kenra Firm Hold hairspray!! I couldn’t live without it and it works better than ANYTHING else I’ve tried

  242. Moroccan oil is my go-to! Perfect for spraying in right after you shower and also great for keeping hair shiny after styling. This also might sound basic but Batiste dry shampoo is a life saver!!! Always keeps my hair going for an extra day or two when I’m not feeling up for washing it.

Thanks for all your hair tips!!
    xx

  243. The Oribe texturizing spray is the BEST product. I bought a mini one and took it to every wedding I was in/attended.
