Mother’s Day (May 10th) is a few weeks away and you know I had to give you some of my favorite picks for that special lady (or ladies) in your life.  I don’t know about you, but my mom can be hard to shop for.  The reality is that if she wants something, she just buys it for herself.  And that woman has a lot of stuff… so what do you get the person who has everything?

For me – it’s either a funny gift like this (obsessed) or a story.  My mom has a big scrapbook where she keeps stories we write.  It could be a funny story about when I had a full out #whitegirlproblems moment and my car wouldn’t crank in the Bloomingdale’s parking lot at 9pm while Christian was performing surgery and not answering my calls OR when I drank to many margaritas and ended up giving a parking lot cat a new home.

Another idea is do what my sister did a few years ago and create a little book of “Karen-isms.”  We compiled all the ridiculous things my mom is known to say (ex: “stop being a hater” and “I’m awesome,” whenever she completes a project). And of course she read it and laughed at every single one, saying “um YEAH, that’s true, totally agree,” only confirming that she stands by her Karen-isms.

What are some of your original gift ideas for your mom?  And don’t have time to come up with some thoughtful, handmade gift?  This guide’s gotcha girl.

Thanks for reading! XO –

  1. I love the idea of stories or “karen-isms”…how sweet and funny and thoughtful! I’m sure she loves that so much. My mom always loves most the personalized, hand-made gifts like that.

    1. Looks like you have some writing to do then, Emilie!! 🙂 Thanks for sharing XO –

  2. Kathleen,
My favorite gift from my kiddos are the stories I asked for all of you to start writing for me many years ago. Yours are almost always exaggerated which makes them extra hilarious!!! And you are correct, I not only LOVE the Shutterfly book Sarah Thorne made for me with all of the “Karenisms” illustrated by awkward family photos, I’ve shown it to almost all of my closest friends! Its true, I do love to tell you all how AWESOME I am after completing a requested project from one of you but I also think my children and their spouses are pretty AWESOME too!
    Love you much,
    Mom

  3. This year is my first Mother’s Day with my baby, and I may or may not have just sent my husband links to the Rebecca Minkoff purse (which honestly I’ve been eyeing for awhile) and the key chain. Which makes me feel a little narcissistic since I know the point of this post was to find presents for your mom and not yourself… haha.

    1. HA! But you’re a mom!! I like your style. Sometimes you just have to be assertive. 🙂 xo

  4. I totally LOVE the idea of a little book with sentences my mom loves to say. I immediatelly suggested it to my sister for next year. So: Thank’s a lot!!!

This year I will give her a high quality handkerchief with the initials of her irst name embroidered on it.

    1. Yay that makes me so happy!! I love that handkerchief idea, that’s what I gave my mom on my wedding day. Thanks for sharing! XO
