black and white art

If you follow CBL on Instagram, you have probably already seen this nook.  Our apartment has these partial built-ins in two rooms, and because the shelves are only about five inches deep they’re a little odd to style.

I used to have this print in our OC townhouse that went with the coastal theme of our living room.  In this space I wanted to take away some of the beachy vibe and replace it with a few modern touches. I thought the easiest and least expensive way to do that was through throw pillows and art.

You guys… I am in love with the way this turned out! I think the black and white art adds a matureness to the space. Great art doesn’t have to be expensive, so I wanted to round up some of my favorite black and white affordable picks:

large abstract art (40 x 30) | small silhouette art (16 x 20) | golden gate art (14 x 11) c/o of Minted | planter (on sale and under $45!) | lamp (old) – love this one, this one and this one | dresser – junk store reboot | rug

Are you into black & white art? Or do you paint yourself? I’d love to hear what kind of art you gravitate toward! Thanks so much for reading – XO –

  1. I love your inferior design posts! That little corner of your room looks amazing, I think that the pictures as well AS the plants make the perfect balance!
I adore black and white prints, I find them so elegant and understated at the same time.

    1. Thank you so much Dana! It was kind of a “problem” space for a while and now it’s turned out to be one of my favorite spaces. Funny how that happens!

  2. Love this! I’m moving in December and will for sure be ordering prints. Thanks again for doing all the research and sharing, you just made my move that much more enjoyable. Lol

  3. My father was an artist and I am fortunate to have two of his paintings in my living room. They are very colorful and textural. I also have an old poster from a Russian mystery movie hanging in my kitchen. That one was a gift from my best friend.
