If you follow CBL on Instagram, you have probably already seen this nook.  Our apartment has these partial built-ins in two rooms, and because the shelves are only about five inches deep they’re a little odd to style.

I used to have this print in our OC townhouse that went with the coastal theme of our living room.  In this space I wanted to take away some of the beachy vibe and replace it with a few modern touches. I thought the easiest and least expensive way to do that was through throw pillows and art.

You guys… I am in love with the way this turned out! I think the black and white art adds a matureness to the space. Great art doesn’t have to be expensive, so I wanted to round up some of my favorite black and white affordable picks:

  10. My father was an artist and I am fortunate to have two of his paintings in my living room. They are very colorful and textural. I also have an old poster from a Russian mystery movie hanging in my kitchen. That one was a gift from my best friend.
