black shirt dress

On another edition of wearing dresses as tops, I wanted to bring a dressed up version to continue to show you guys how you can rock this same trend!

I shared a more casual version of this here, and today’s look I would definitely have worn to my corporate 9 to 5 back in the day.  I’m always preaching versatility and maximizing your closet, and I think this is such a great way to get the most bang for your buck.

This shirtdress is so gorgeous worn as a dress or top.  It comes with it’s own fabric belt, or you can belt it on your own. The length is perfectly appropriate for work or church, or you can layer it to create a different vibe. The material is so pretty in person, and I love the longer length in the back. So chic!

Is this something you could see yourself wearing to the office or church? Or am I totally out of left field with this dresses-as-tops conversation I keep bringing up? I would love to hear what you guys think!

  1. A dress is a dress, and a top is a top. The two species should not mix.

  2. Love LOVE everything about this look, Kat! Wearing this dress as a top when styled with this skirt is seriously genius. Completely agree with you; this is the best way to maximize your closet. One of my favorite looks by/on you by far! Cheers, girlfriend! Xx, Amanda

  3. The 9-5 days have dissipated. The US corporate world views a 9-5 employee as lazy & unambitious, & now wants 10 hr days, on demand availability via e-mail on your days off, & get upset when you ask for more pay. Not to mention they look down on those who take vaca, personal & sick day. OK rant is done 🙂 but LOVE the look.

    1. Haha I hear you Sady! I now work from home but it’s more like 8 to 8 + weekend work… it’s more of a phrase that’s used! Haha hope you have a great week!

  4. Great post! I personally love this outfit and how you styled this dress as a top. I think it’s gorgeous, especially with the belt, and it almost looks more like light trench coat or outerwear rather than a top. Gorgeous!

  5. This 9-5’er ordered the dress. Love the look and versatility as a top or dress. Thanks for the inspiration, as always!

  6. I like your outfit, especially skirt. You look beautiful. 🙂
