It’s Friday!!  Like most weeks, this week seemed to breeze by, but in a much happier way than it has been lately.  It was our first full week living back downstairs in our bedroom and using our newly renovated bathroom (!!).

I know it may sound silly, but wow.  WOW!  I recently told Christian that I knew this bathroom remodel would be a quality of life upgrade but it is honestly even more impactful than I realized it would be.  And he agreed.  I don’t know how to even properly explain it, but not only do I love being back in our bedroom, I also just can’t believe we have this new bathroom that makes me feel like I’m at a fancy hotel.

This is our first year of home ownership.  Other than having the exterior of our home painted last year, we’ve never done any kind of major project like this.  We are renovation novices, and it was a labor of love, blood, sweat (no tears, thankfully!) – as most renovations are.  Now we are actually able to enjoy it, and I will accept the victory.  I’ll be sharing a before and after once we have all the small finishing touches complete!

This week was what I call the calm before the storm.  A slower work week before things kick into high gear next week.  So I took advantage of the time and soaked up some extra snuggles with Hudson.  Took an hour long bath with a margarita and spent more time playing peek-a-boo and less time on email.  And it was really, really sweet.

This weekend I have some projects to work on and I’m hoping to catch Chelsea Handler’s new stand up on HBO Max.  I’m hoping Christian will take over some of the cooking… even if it means takeout!  Have you watched anything wonderful lately?

Thank you so much for reading!  XO –

I was literally just telling myself I need to reorganize my denim drawers because they are overflowing.  Because I love denim.  Love it.  Easy, goes with everything, always looks good and works all year long.

I wanted to round up some of my favorite denim picks right now!  I’m wearing these jeans (on sale!) in this post from Monday.  I am loving Abercrombie’s denim right now – these are perfection.  I love the patches on these – so fun and perfect with a solid tee.  And I love a chambray shirt like this one or this one.  Works all year long with black, white or blue denim.  You can also layer a chambray knotted over a dress!

I also love the idea of leather or faux leather pants that are in the silhouette of denim.  I shared recently that I splurged on these a few years ago and have never regretted it (styled here).  This is a great coated denim pair that gives the same look for less of an investment.

Have you made any denim purchases recently that you really love?  Please spill the tea if so!  Thank you so much for reading – XO –

leather pleated pants

I love a pair of leather pants.  Love.  You might remember this pair from this recent post.

I think they are timeless, look great with so much and add an edgy confidence to an outfit.  From t-shirts to sweaters, blouses and camisoles… they look great with nearly any top.  I saved up for my first pair a few years ago and I have worn them so many times.  In fact, I was so bummed when I couldn’t fit into them last fall and winter because I was either super pregnant or postpartum!

This pair is so gorgeous and a looser fit, so it gives a completely different look.  I think they would also look great rolled up a few times at the ankle.  I also linked a few similar styles below that are faux leather and give you the same vibe.

You can find a few more posts with looks involving leather pants here, here and here.  Coated denim can give you a similar look and you can see a look with coated denim here.

black and marble floor tile

There’s no denying that 2020 has been a different kind of year.  Not only are we all dealing with our own ways we’ve been personally affected, we have also become new parents and taken on our first-ever renovation project.  Life, as always, is busy and moves fast!

But it’s always important to dedicate some time, however small, to slow down and enjoy a moment.  And if we are talking about taking time for a moment of TLC, the ultimate is my La Mer skincare.  I just recently finished my first soft cream from Neiman Marcus, and I treasured the gorgeous glass jar each time I opened it to smell the familiar scent.  Because I knew I loved the soft cream so much, I couldn’t wait to try their newly advanced serum, The Concentrate!

La Mer’s The Concentrate is a velvety barrier serum powered with antioxidants to protect your skin from environmental irritants.  And now that I’ve been using it for a few weeks… I really love it.  Really, really love it.

I like to use The Concentrate as the third step in my skincare routine, after I cleanse and apply serum and before I moisturize.  It feels and smells so velvety and luxurious.  If you want it to be, applying it really is a moment to stop, be present, enjoy the positive thing you’re doing for yourself and your skin and take a few breaths.  As busy mothers and career women – you’ve got to take those small moments of serenity wherever you can grab them!

I love knowing that I’m doing something for myself that not only feels great but also is helping to protect me from pollution, micro-dust, etc.  I’m all about helping to prevent damage however I can.

I’ve also shared a few times with you guys on Instagram that I’ve put much more thought into the fragrances I choose in the morning.  Even if I’m not leaving the house, I will really take the time to select something based on my mood and it gives me a little boost in the mornings.

I recently added Creed’s Aventus for Her to my collection which is feminine and floral and inspired by some of history’s most powerful and modern women.  I actually got Christian the same Aventus scent from Creed for Him, and it maintains the fruitiness with a musky undertone.  It happens to be one of the bestselling fragrances from the brand.  Another recent Creed fragrance pick of mine is Love in White.  All are available at Neiman Marcus.

Thank you so much for reading.  I would love to hear if you have a favorite Creed scent or La Mer product!  And of course, how you’re finding time for yourself during this year.  XO –

Ok technically that was six photos rather than five… but you get me.  Two weeks into October.  Like so many, these last three months of the year are my favorite time of year so I’m trying to really soak it up.  It flies by too fast!

We had a really productive week and our bathroom remodel is finally coming to a close.  We have a few small finishing touches (hanging things, etc.) but we have moved back downstairs and are able to actually use it.  Which is MAJOR!  I’ll be sharing a full before and after in the next little bit.

Christian’s parents are visiting this weekend, and we’re excited for them to see Hudson.  Babies grow so quickly that first year, so it’s crazy what all he can do now versus when they saw him three months ago!  We are supposed to have chilly weather and I hope we can find some things to do to get us out of the house.

We finished watching all three seasons of Yellowstone.  I’m so sad it’s over!  They say that the next season doesn’t come out until summer 2021… so I don’t know how I’ll do without it for so long.  This Is Us is coming back soon at least, so that’s something.

And that’s all I’ve got.  I have some fun content coming in the next few weeks for you guys.  I’m excited to share!  Thank you so much for reading and I hope you have a beautiful weekend.  XO –

puffer jackets

With fall here and winter around the corner, the weekday uniform is about to be leggings and a puff jacket.  Truth be told, even working from home I try to get “dressed, dressed” at least 3-4 days during the work week.  But for that one or two days I stick to lounge – it’s a jogger set or leggings and a puffy somethin’ for sure.

I recently got this jacket and I can’t tell you how much I love it.  It looks like faux leather but feels like a sweatshirt.  Brilliant!  I love a vest, and this one is the kind you’ll have for decades.  I might be the only girl who doesn’t have a pair of align leggings, but everyone tells me how amazing they are.  Apparently they work for pre-pregnancy, during pregnancy and beyond, which is why people say they’re definitely worth the splurge.

If I still lived in a walkable city, I think this longer puff jacket would be so helpful (love something that covers the tush for public transit).  I also really love the color of this one – so pretty!

Are you about a puffer?  Tell me what’s your lazy but put together look for colder months.  Thank you so much for reading! XO –

Shopbop is having a big fall sale this week that is always so tempting – 15% off orders $200+, 20% off orders $500+, 25% off $800+ with the code FALL20.  That adds up and fast!

Loving this bag.  Can’t get over how much I love and need these boots.  I think this shirt would look so cute with classic jeans.  I have and love this headband, it looks great with so much.  I’ve had my eye on this blazer for at least two years… might be time to take the plunge.  And I’m very into eggshell denim right now (styled here).  I think they work all year round.

burgundy leather pants

On Friday I shared some photos of this look, and I knew I would want to share a follow-up post because I felt it was just that good.  Pink and burgundy.  Why have I not been pairing these two together all of my life?

This exact look, accessories included, are linked below.  Cashmere and leather are undoubtedly investment pieces.  They are the types of items you save up for, splurge on and treasure for decades.  The leather coats and pants I own?  I’ll never replace as long as they fit.  In fact, the more worn in they become the better they become.  Which is part of what makes them worth the investment.

This exact look is to serve inspiration for fall.  To inspire you when shopping and pairing things together this season.  Take inventory of the pieces you have, and what you might be missing that would complement the pieces you have.  Maybe you are rich in sweaters but could use an edgy pair of pants to switch up your usual denim.  Perhaps a pair of leather pants are just what you need and you’re going to save up for Cyber Monday.

Or maybe you are a mostly neutrals girl and want to add a pop of color for times you feel more feminine.  A pink cashmere turtleneck?  What’s not to love!?

Let’s get inspired for a new season of texture, layers and color palettes.  Yaaasss, honey!

pink cashmere sweater

I know you guys are just as excited as I am to mix up your looks with some seasonal pieces, and today I am sharing three stylish and ultra chic statement looks with Lafayette 148, available at Neiman Marcus.

If you have a store near you, you can mask up and check out these gorgeous pieces in person.  If not, it’s so easy to shop online and you can find all of these pieces there as well (links above each look) or you can consult with a complimentary Digital Style Advisor after taking a short quiz.

Let’s get right into it –

neiman marcus online

Look One: Pink + Burgundy

A color combination that perhaps is a bit unexpected but wow, do they make a statement together!  Pairing cashmere and leather give a texture contrast that feels as luxe as it looks.

This cashmere wrap coat has a weight that feels really versatile.  And in pink, it can easily carry you from fall into spring.  The pants have a very comfortable elastic band, an ankle slit that makes them much easier to get on and off than most leather pants and also come in black.  I know I’m going to love, love, love them.  The cashmere turtleneck would be just as fabulous with jeans, but the monochromatic element with the coat is just, chef’s kiss.

Look Two: Sleek and Chic

There are some outfits that have attitude just in the way they present themselves.  This is definitely one of them.  When it’s appropriate, I think this would be such a great look for drinks with your girlfriends or even a holiday party with some silver, gold or sparkly jewelry.

It’s edgy yet polished, and the top and pant still really bring a statement when paired separately.  In fact, I have another post coming with these pants styled a bit more casually.  Stay tuned!

Look Three: Statement Blouse

When I’m getting dressed for a dinner or event, I often remind myself that most are only looking at you from the waist up.  Even in meetings, Zoom or in-person, your waist-up look is what makes the impression.  Therefore, I try to focus on pieces that show my style and personality in blouses, jewelry, the top of dresses, etc.

This Lafayette 148 shirt really brings the fun upfront.  It also comes in black and a plaid that are beautiful as well.  I have another blog post coming that styles this white version a little edgier – coming soon!

Which look is your favorite and which piece can you picture yourself adding to your closet this season?  I’d love to hear if you’re planning to invest in a seasonal item this year – a coat, leather pant or jacket, boots, bag.  What’s it going to be, ladies?

Thanks so much for reading and sharing – XO –

I was introduced to face rolling a few years ago, and I’ve been a believer ever since.  The benefits include massaging the face, stimulating the lymphatic system to rid toxins, decrease puffiness, ease muscle tension and stimulating blood flow.  Not to mention, it just feels amazing.

Over a year ago I attended a beauty event at Neiman Marcus and the guest speaker was raving about her ReFa roller.  So I bought this one, and unlike my other face rollers, it gave this subtle pinching effect that felt so good.  That’s because the reFa Carat Ray Face is uniquely designed to mimic an aesthetician’s facial massage movements.

Their rollers are platinum-coated and waterproof.  One of the things I really love about the larger Carat Ray Face roller is that is can also be used on your collarbone, shoulders, arms, waist – anywhere!  The smaller S Carat Ray Face is great for your jawline, eyes, lips, forehead and cheeks.  Unlike many face rollers, these are designed to roll both up and down, and you can see a mini video tutorial here.

A product of theirs I recently tried for the first time is the reFa mist set.  Not only is this device beautiful, but it is also incredibly refreshing.  It was designed to give your skin an extra moisture boost.  You can use it on your skin after cleansing or even after you’ve applied makeup as a refresher to your skin throughout the day.  The gas cartridge converts the gel Jewel Mask to a fine mist that smells amazing.  It feels like a light and even hydration to your skin.  I even used it on Christian!  You can see a video of how it works here.

And they have so kindly offered CBL readers 15% off their reFa order with the code KATHLEEN15 through 10/15!

I am most likely to use my face roller in the AM after I have applied my skincare and before I’ve put on my makeup.  I will also use it at night after a face mask.  Or if I am lounging, watching TV in bed I’ll use it simply because it feels so good.

Do you have a facial roller or have you been using one for a while?  I’d love to hear how you incorporate it in your routine.  And don’t forget that you can get 15% off your reFa order with the code KATHLEEN15 through 10/15!

black and white rug

We all love some pom pom sweaters.  They’re so fun, add something interesting and memorable to an otherwise simple sweater or cardigan, and thankfully now easier to find than they used to be!

I have several pom sweaters and cardigans, and I always tend to reach for them to layer over simple pieces like a solid camisole and jeans or solid slip dress and booties.  You can keep the rest of your outfit minimal and really let the knit do the talking.

You can find other pom pom sweaters styled here and here.  This one is on sale, and I’m sharing some of my favorite pom pom sweaters available now at the bottom of this post.

The first Friday in October!  I don’t know about you guys, but each time we hit a new month I have this interesting flashback of 2020 since March.  Who could have thought this is where we would be in the fall?  Very, very interesting.

On one hand, it makes me really sad that Hudson’s entire life so far has been about keeping him hidden or “trapped” from the outside world.  He has only been to a restaurant three times in his 10 months of life.  He’s been to the grocery with me one time.  Sometimes I think about how much he would love riding around in the grocery cart, looking around, seeing the smiles of strangers.  And when I think about it, it definitely makes me a little sad.

But I know keeping his exposure to the outside world (other than the few people he sees regularly) is what’s best for him.  I also know I’m lucky that he won’t remember this year and I don’t have to try to explain to him why he can’t see his friends or why he has to participate in virtual schooling.  We each have our struggles with this year regardless of your children’s age or if you even have children at all.  I hope our next experience with a baby will be different, but until then I’m just trying to enjoy hogging this little guy to myself.

I shared on Wednesday that I had already put out some spooky decorations to get festive at home.  It’s been really fun to look for decorations this year, as last year we were still painting the exterior, changing up different things in the front and backyard and furnishing the interior.  Even though we are seven weeks into our bathroom renovation which puts our bedroom and breakfast room in disarray (so they can load in supplies)… we’re still ahead of where we were this time last year.

I’ll be honest, I had no idea that a bathroom remodel, which is on one end of our home, would affect nearly the entire house.  Alas, I’m reminded why people try to renovate things before they move in if they can.  We didn’t have that luxury this time, but I am sure to remember this if there is a next time!

Are you decorating for Halloween this year?  Or doing any renovations in 2020?  My contractor tells us that he has such a busy calendar.  I think people are spending so much time at home they’re seeing all the things they want to change!

Thanks so much for reading and sharing – XO –
